Ernest K. Lehmann Memorial Scholarship
The Ernest K. Lehmann Scholarship (Lehmann Scholarship) was established in 2014 by the Lehmann Family Fund of the Saint Paul Foundation and the Twin Cities Subsection of SME (SME TC) and the Minnesota Section of SME (SME Minnesota). Ernie Lehmann had a distinguished career as an exploration geologist and mining entrepreneur. He worked extensively in the Americas, Africa and Europe and was a tireless promoter of the mining industry, serving on numerous advisory committees and boards throughout his 60-year career. He was a charter member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists and received AIPG’s highest award, the Ben H. Parker Medal, in 1987. He received SME’s Ben F. Dickerson Award in 2005 for his contributions to the mining industry.
The Lehmann Scholarship is awarded annually to one or more students pursuing an undergraduate degree in geology or geological sciences. Applicants must have completed their sophomore year of studies at the time of application. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
Annual application cycle is September 1st - October 15th

SME Foundation Scholarships
Each year the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) and the SME Foundation offer multiple scholarships to SME student members who demonstrate a desire for and probability of success in a career in the minerals industry. A list of available scholarships is provided on the website. Click on the scholarship’s name to view the full guidelines and application instructions.

Minnesota Student Chapter Scholarships
The Minnesota Section, Twin Cities Subsection and Northern MN Subsection (MNSME) is proud to offer a total of eight scholarships totaling $12,000 to Minnesota Student Chapter members. With your early engagement as a SME student member, you have a jump start on discovering the many career paths in the mining and mineral industry.

Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation - Minnesota Section SME Scholarships
About: The Minnesota Section, Society for Mining Metallurgy and Exploration Scholarship Fund provides scholarships and/or loans to individuals for the undergraduate study of engineering or geology. The fund gives priority to those who express an interest in working in the mining industry in Minnesota.
Fund Story: The purpose of the Minnesota Section, Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarships to individuals for the undergraduate study of engineering with an emphasis on those individuals who express an interest in working in the mining industry in Minnesota and to provide career development opportunities for students who may be prospective employees of the mining industry in Minnesota. In addition, scholarships are occasionally available for individuals in graduate or professional school in the field of engineering.
Awards Given from Fund: Scholarships are awarded to college students and high school seniors who will study engineering or geology and who express an interest in working in the mining industry in Minnesota. Scholarships (of about $1000/year), co-payable to the student and institution will be awarded each year. Generally, this annual award is divided into two installments--half for fall, half for spring. In most cases, the scholarship is renewable for four years, assuming proper academic progress (GPA of 2.5 or greater) is maintained.
Application: Eligible applicants will be Minnesota residents or planning to attend a Minnesota college or university - majoring in Engineering or Geology. They must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Interested applicants should complete and submit the DSACF Common Application by the deadline. A complete application will also include an official academic transcript, two recommendations and financial need documentation.

WAAIME Scholarship
The WAAIME Scholarship fund provides scholarships to students pursuing earth science degrees including mining, geological sciences, metallurgy, petroleum, mineral sciences, materials science and engineering, mineral economics, chemical engineering and other related studies. Student members of any AIME Member Society (AIST, SME, SPE, TMS) are eligible and are encouraged to apply.
The number and amount of scholarships awarded yearly shall be dictated by the funds available and by the financial needs of the applicants.
